About the role
The Library Shop at the New York Public Library is a one-of-a-kind store created for book people. The shop spans 1,100 square feet and is divided into two distinct rooms: one for books (children and adults), journals, souvenir items, and literary totes and tees; and one for jewelry, accessories, desk items, and other book-related gifts, including proprietary products like bookends and ornaments. With over 4,000 hand-selected items, the Library Shop is a destination for tourists worldwide, selling between 1,500 and 2,000 items daily.
This is a temporary, seasonal part-time position through January 8th, 2027.
Responsibilities
- Check in deliveries against packing slips and purchase orders, reporting any discrepancies
- Price most and occasionally package merchandise
- Distribute merchandise to shop and storage areas
- Maintain all stock areas so merchandise is easily found and identifiable
- Learn the Shop’s POS and inventory system and use it for daily tasks with minimal supervision
- Perform related duties as required
Requirements
- High School Diploma minimum
- 1-year Receiving experience
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to perform detailed and repetitive work accurately and neatly
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Demonstrated reliability and flexibility
- Demonstrated computer and related technology skills
- Experience working in a retail environment preferred

Schedule
- 21 hours per week, 3 days/week (Monday and two additional weekdays to be determined)
- Position runs through January 8th, 2027
Pay
$18.40 per hour.
