About the role
The Lead Accountant of the Receipt Center Unit plans, develops, establishes, and promotes the goals and organizational structure of the Receipt Processing Unit. Responsibilities include implementing and directing fiscal reporting of new revenue initiatives, ensuring compliance with legislative intent, and prompt and accurate identification, deposit, and credit of receipts. This role also involves developing and proposing legislative bills to allow for new receipting technologies and efficient procedures, as well as directing and assisting with the supervision of the Receipt Center to ensure operational security and efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Direct the Receipt Center Unit in depositing department receipts and receipts for other agencies, ensuring prompt posting to the bank, proper SWIFT funding, and accurate accounts receivable system entries.
- Implement security measures to prevent theft or loss of receipts.
- Ensure completion of daily EFT entries, reconciliations, deposits, Treasury adjustments, and other daily processes while meeting deadlines.
- Train co-workers on specific tasks, job practices, and procedures to maintain performance levels, including communicating timetables, quality standards, and providing instruction on policies and procedures.
- Oversee the fiscal management of the Department’s Federal Funds to ensure prompt payment from federal accounts and compliance with federal grant authority.
Requirements
- Two (2) years of accounting experience demonstrating:
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and practices.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency with large, complex spreadsheets and databases (Microsoft Office Suite).
- Excellent analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple demands under tight time constraints.
- Ability to prepare and interpret complex fiscal records and reports, recognize problems, and implement solutions.
- Ability to analyze fiscal reports and banking records for adherence to federal laws, state statutes, and department policies.
- Ability to gather, analyze, and interpret complex data to identify program improvements and process simplification opportunities.
- A Bachelor’s degree or higher in accounting, finance, or a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working at a Credit Union, Bank, or Financial Institution dealing with checks, EFTs, ACH, and reconciling accounts.
- Knowledge of the SWIFT accounting system.
- Experience with statewide accounting systems.
- Experience working effectively with diverse backgrounds and cultures.
Pay
$29.76 - $43.69 / hourly; $62,138 - $91,224 / annually
Schedule
Day Shift, 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM
Days of Work: Monday - Friday
