About the role
The Rebar Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive material takeoffs, cost estimates, quotations, and project documentation for reinforced concrete construction projects. This role analyzes construction drawings, specifications, bid documents, and customer requirements to develop complete and accurate proposals while partnering closely with Sales, Project Management, Detailing, Production, and Operations teams. The Rebar Estimator plays a critical role in supporting successful project bidding, customer satisfaction, and operational execution by delivering timely, accurate estimates that align with project requirements and company standards.
Responsibilities
- Estimating & Proposal Development
- Prepare accurate material takeoffs, estimates, quotations, and project proposals from construction plans, specifications, and bid documents
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for reinforcing steel and related construction materials
- Analyze architectural, structural, civil, transportation, and commercial construction drawings to determine project scope and material requirements
- Develop complete customer quotations including product descriptions, quantities, pricing, freight, and applicable terms
- Revise estimates based on project addenda, design revisions, and customer changes
- Research pricing and availability of specialty or non-stock materials and incorporate findings into estimates
- Meet customer bid deadlines while maintaining a high level of estimating accuracy
- Project Review & Technical Analysis
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents
- Review project scope to identify estimating risks, opportunities, and potential cost impacts
- Evaluate construction sequencing, reinforcing steel placement, and project requirements to ensure complete material coverage
- Verify project details prior to production and order release
- Maintain working knowledge of reinforcing steel products, construction methods, and applicable industry standards
- Customer & Sales Support
- Communicate with customers regarding project requirements, quotations, revisions, and technical questions
- Support Sales Representatives by providing estimating expertise and project information
- Prepare shop drawing submittals, product information, and supporting project documentation as required
- Respond promptly to customer requests and provide consultative estimating support
- Maintain positive customer relationships through professional communication and responsiveness
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Project Managers, Detailers, Purchasing, Production, Operations, and Administrative teams throughout the project lifecycle
- Coordinate project handoffs to ensure awarded work transitions smoothly into detailing and production
- Assist with determining material requirements, vendor quote solicitations, purchasing recommendations, and project order write-ups
- Maintain accurate project documentation, estimating files, and revision history
- Participate in project review meetings and support continuous process improvement initiatives
- Operational Excellence
- Maintain accurate project records and estimating documentation within company systems
- Utilize estimating software, ERP systems, and web-based plan rooms effectively
- Identify opportunities to improve estimating accuracy, efficiency, and workflow
- Maintain compliance with company quality standards, safety policies, and operating procedures
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Requirements

- Associate's degree in Construction Management, Engineering Technology, Business, or related field preferred
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in construction estimating, rebar estimating, construction materials, or project coordination
- Experience with reinforced concrete, rebar fabrication, structural steel, or commercial construction preferred
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
- Experience using On-Screen Takeoff (OST), Bluebeam, or similar estimating software
- Familiarity with CRSI, ACI, and other reinforcing steel industry standards preferred
- Experience utilizing ERP systems, digital plan rooms, and electronic bidding platforms
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) communication skills are a plus
Work Environment
- Primarily office-based environment with regular collaboration across Sales, Project Management, Detailing, Production, Purchasing, and Operations
- Frequent use of computers, estimating software, digital construction drawings, and ERP systems
- Occasional visits to fabrication facilities, warehouses, or project sites as needed
- Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods
- Ability to occasionally lift plans, samples, or office materials up to 25 pounds
- Flexibility to work extended hours to support bid deadlines and project schedules
