About the role
The Real Estate Specialist 1 / Trainee 1 / Trainee 2 (NY Helps) - Region 2 position involves determining property values, managing properties, negotiating financial settlements, and performing various appraisal and property management tasks. The position requires considerable travel and fieldwork within a regional area and occasionally to other parts of New York State.
Responsibilities
May serve a role within the Incident Command System to support the department's response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
Requirements
- Real Estate Specialist Trainee 1: A bachelor’s degree or four years of relevant real estate experience.
- Real Estate Specialist Trainee 2: A bachelor’s degree and one year of relevant professional experience, or five years of relevant real estate experience.
- Real Estate Specialist 1: A bachelor’s degree and two years of relevant professional experience, or six years of relevant real estate experience.
Qualifications
- To be considered for appointment through NY HELPS, candidates must meet the open-competitive minimum qualifications for this position.
- The starting salary for Real Estate Specialist Trainee 1 is $53,764, for Real Estate Specialist Trainee 2 is $59,994, and for Real Estate Specialist 1 is $66,951.

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Candidates selected for appointment must provide proof of citizenship and/or legal right to work in the United States. Candidates for employment must have proper authorization to work in the United States at the time an offer of employment is made. The Department will not sponsor a nonimmigrant for a temporary employment visa (H-1B or similar), OPT STEM, or for permanent residence.
