Real Estate Reporter, New York Post
About the role
The New York Post digital team is seeking a full-time Real Estate Reporter who is deeply sourced in New York City and national residential real estate. The ideal candidate is an independent, highly motivated self-starter with strong industry contacts, access to exclusive tips, and knowledge of local and national real-estate databases. The role involves writing short-form breaking stories on tight deadlines as well as longer-lead features, including human-interest stories, deep dives into controversial properties, and listings with celebrity, historical, or superlative significance.
Responsibilities
- Pitch and craft engaging daily articles tailored to The Post’s readership and voice under tight deadlines, with SEO optimization in mind.
- Produce a variety of stories, including aggregated web pieces and longer features for the daily newspaper.
- Generate daily pitches designed to drive high-quality traffic and keep readers engaged.
- Stay informed about developments in the residential real estate industry, such as record-breaking property listings, celebrity transactions, and market data updates (e.g., rent fluctuations in major national markets).
- Report and write articles with precision, accuracy, and adherence to the highest professional standards.
- Attend industry events and dedicate time to source meetings with brokers and publicists to cultivate story leads.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in journalism or a related field.
- At least three years of experience as a real estate reporter, preferably in residential real estate.
- Exceptional writing skills with a strong grasp of fact-checking and SEO principles.
- Creative thinking and receptiveness to feedback, with an ability to find unique angles for stories.
- In-depth knowledge of trends in residential real estate, both locally and nationally.
- Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and maintain high standards.
- Proficiency in WordPress or a similar CMS.
Schedule
This role requires on-site work 5 days per week at The New York Post office.
Pay
Base pay range: $72,000 – $80,000. This range reflects our good faith estimate and may vary based on a candidate’s experience, skills, location, and other relevant factors. Bonus-eligible roles include targets determined by market benchmarks and individual contributions.
