Real Estate Finance Counsel
About the Role
McGuireWoods' New York office is seeking a Counsel to join its Real Estate Finance Practice Area within the Public & Private Infrastructure & Real Estate Department. The Real Estate department is recognized for delivering a full spectrum of sophisticated real estate services through a team of over 80 professionals specializing in transactions, finance, and workouts, operating both nationally and internationally.
The firm’s rapidly growing multidisciplinary Affordable Housing Team advises clients ranging from closely held, community-based businesses to Fortune 100 companies. The team, including members from McGuireWoods Consulting, offers deep knowledge, experience, and strategic insights to help clients navigate the complex landscape of housing policy. The practice covers all aspects of affordable and mixed-income/mixed-use housing and community development, serving clients on all sides of affordable housing transactions.
Responsibilities
- Represent secured lenders, including balance sheet, bridge, and CMBS/conduit lenders, in sophisticated commercial real estate finance transactions.
- Handle multifamily agency (Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac) and various balance sheet platform transactions (preferred).
- Engage in affordable housing and workout matters to expand opportunities within the practice.
- Collaborate with business and legal teams, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills and a proven ability to inspire client confidence.
Requirements
- 8+ years of commercial real estate finance experience in a sophisticated law firm setting.
- Admission to the New York Bar is required.
- Strong academic record, excellent writing, and oral communication skills.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively as a “team player.”
Preferred qualifications include experience with affordable housing and/or workouts.

Pay
$350,000–$450,000 per year.
