Real Estate Accounting Summer Intern

About the role

Inland Real Estate Investment Corporation (IREIC) sponsors public and private REITs and is part of The Inland Real Estate Group of Companies, headquartered in Oak Brook, Illinois. The summer internship is a ten‑week rotational program that provides exposure to fund accounting, property accounting, and SEC reporting departments. Interns work at the Downers Grove, Illinois corporate headquarters, 40 hours per week, gaining hands‑on experience in accounting, financial reporting, analysis, and cash flow analysis within the commercial real estate industry.

Responsibilities

• Fund Accounting: Assist in maintaining REIT books and records in Yardi per US GAAP; assist with monthly close of consolidated REIT books in Yardi and supporting Excel workbooks; assist with preparation of monthly/quarterly reports, variance analyses, and management reports; assist with external audit support during quarterly review.
• Property Accounting: Assist in maintaining property books in Yardi using accrual accounting; assist with preparing monthly close workbooks with variance analyses; assist with annual common area maintenance and real estate tax reconciliations; assist with other projects and analyses as needed.
• SEC Reporting: Assist in collecting and compiling information for financial statements, footnotes, and SEC filings (Forms 8‑K, 10‑K, 10‑Q); assist in managing documents for SEC filings within Active Disclosure and with XBRL review; assist with other miscellaneous projects as assigned.

Requirements

• Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in accounting
• Minimum 3.0 GPA
• Ability to work 40 hours per week
• Strong interest in pursuing a career in real estate accounting
• Demonstrable working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Knowledge or desire and aptitude to learn Yardi and Active Disclosure
• Attention to detail and analytically minded
• Self‑motivated, diligent, outstanding communication skills
• Must be a junior at time of application

Pay

Hourly pay rate: $25.

Schedule

Ten‑week rotational summer internship, 40 hours per week.
