Duties And Responsibilities

  • Assesses reading levels and collaborates with classroom teachers.
  • Facilitates and conducts student screenings using appropriate assessment tools.
  • Analyzes data from assessments to identify areas for improvement and monitor progress.
  • Facilitates and manages district and state reading assessments and programs.
  • Develops and implements reading intervention lessons using research-based strategies.
  • Maintains records of individual student progress and collaborates with teachers.
  • Instructs and advises teachers on differentiating reading instruction.
  • Collaborates within a professional learning community to enhance instructional practices.
  • Implements appropriate intervention programs for struggling readers.
  • Attends professional development and maintains current knowledge in reading skills and remediation.

Job Requirements

  • Possess or be eligible for a Virginia Teaching License with a Reading Specialist endorsement.
  • Master's degree in Reading preferred.
  • Knowledge of instructional best practices and differentiated instruction.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.

Salary

The annual salary for this position ranges from $58,500 (Step 0, Bachelor's) to $101,105 (Step 30+, Doctorate) based on the approved 2026-2027 school year salary scale. Final salary placement is determined strictly by verified years of creditable experience.
