About the role
Provides specialized reading instruction and support to improve student literacy and access to the educational program.
Responsibilities
- Affirms student reading performance through assessments.
- Implements targeted, research-based interventions based on student needs.
- Collaborates with teachers and school staff to support instructional practices and promote student achievement in accordance with division standards and practices.
Qualifications
- Master's degree from an accredited institution in a state-approved graduate-level reading specialist preparation program, including a supervised practicum experience.
- Satisfied the requirements for the reading specialist assessment specified by the Virginia Board of Education.
- At least three years of successful classroom teaching experience in which the teaching of reading was an important responsibility.
