Reading Program Coordinator, Alpha - $120,000/year USD

Crossover · New York, NY · Yesterday
Customer Service$120k/yrFull-time

What You Will Be Doing

  • Create small-group K-3 reading workshops using real-time adaptive-app data, rooted in structured-literacy approaches (Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, LETRS, IMSE, or similar)
  • Lead daily motivation sessions that drive 100% of students to complete weekly app goals through Alpha's motivational system (campus currency, leaderboards, age-appropriate game elements)
  • Analyze AI-generated performance metrics (fluency trajectories, decoding precision, comprehension indicators) to modify instruction in real time, not only during planning periods
  • Conduct running records, fluency assessments, and decoding diagnostics to generate progress visible in weekly campus data meetings
  • Serve as the approachable, dynamic adult your K-3 students are excited to work with daily

What You Won’t Be Doing

  • Implementing a commercial reading curriculum, scripted lessons, or district scope-and-sequence; you create instruction based on student data
  • Delivering whole-class lectures; all teaching occurs in targeted small groups while students engage with academic content through adaptive technology
  • Serving as a reading coach, consultant to other educators, or district specialist; you work directly with students in the classroom every day
  • Managing a conventional classroom schedule: subject-by-subject instruction, homework correction, test preparation. Your time is structured around workshops, motivation sessions, and data-informed small-group work
  • Drafting IEPs, 504 plans, or formal diagnostic evaluations; student growth is documented through app analytics and your running records, not special-education compliance forms

Basic Requirements

  • Structured-literacy certification (Orton-Gillingham, LETRS, Wilson Reading System, IMSE, CERI, Neuhaus, UFLI, or comparable) OR a Master's degree in reading instruction
  • Bachelor's degree in any field, plus 2+ years of full-time K-3 structured reading instruction in a school or clinical environment within the past 5 years, employing systematic phonics or structured literacy
  • Proven capacity to independently design reading lessons and clearly explain your instructional content and methods, without depending on a published curriculum
  • Commitment to full-time, in-person work at one Alpha campus: Beverly Hills, La Jolla (San Diego), Lake Forest (Orange County), Piedmont, San Francisco, Santa Barbara, or Santa Monica, CA; Greenwich, CT; Boca Raton, FL; Chicago, IL; Boston, MA; or New York City, NY (relocation assistance available)
  • Openness to working with all K-3 students (not exclusively struggling readers) and incorporating AI and adaptive-learning technologies into daily instruction as these tools develop
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship

Nice-to-have Requirements

  • Direct experience with AI-driven or adaptive reading platforms (e.g., Amira, Lexia, i-Ready, Reading Plus) for instructional planning or student data interpretation
  • Documented reading outcomes (fluency growth in WCPM, accuracy increases, decoding level progression) with specific numerical results
  • Familiarity with diagnostic reading tools (DRA, DIBELS, AIMSweb) for creating differentiated instructional groups
  • Experience in high-accountability educational settings (independent schools, high-performing charter networks, premium tutoring services with outcome-focused families)
  • Background in performance, youth sports coaching, or other contexts where you've engaged K-3 audiences beyond traditional reading instruction
