Job Summary
The Middle School Literacy Coach supports teachers and students in improving reading, writing, and overall literacy achievement across all content areas. This role focuses on strengthening instructional practices, modeling effective strategies, and using data to drive literacy growth. The Literacy Coach collaborates with teachers, administrators, and support staff to create a schoolwide culture of literacy.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with teachers to plan, model, and co-teach effective literacy instruction across subjects
- Provide job-embedded professional development focused on reading, writing, vocabulary, and comprehension strategies
- Support the implementation of literacy standards and curriculum
- Analyze student data to identify needs, monitor progress, and guide instructional decisions
- Coach teachers through observation, feedback, and reflective conversations
- Assist in developing and implementing interventions for struggling readers and writers
- Promote disciplinary literacy practices in subjects such as science, social studies, and math
- Facilitate professional learning communities (PLCs) focused on literacy goals
- Curate and recommend instructional resources and materials
- Support schoolwide literacy initiatives and programs
- Model best practices in differentiated instruction and engagement strategies
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Education (Master's degree in Literacy, Reading, or related field preferred)
- Valid teaching certification & reading endorsement
- Minimum of 3-5 years of successful classroom teaching experience, preferably at the middle school level
- Strong knowledge of adolescent literacy development and instructional strategies
- Experience with data analysis and progress monitoring
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and coaching skills
