Reactor Operations Trainee

Job Duties

• Be available for regular and consistent onsite work.
• Operate and control the University of Missouri Research Reactor (MURR) in accordance with policies and procedures, to protect the public from radiation and to ensure environmental safety.
• Adjust controls to position rods and regulate flux level, reactor period, and coolant temperature, following standard procedures.
• Implement emergency procedures when needed.
• Respond to abnormalities, determine cause, and recommend corrective action.
• Perform preventative maintenance to ensure plant reliability.
• Implement actions such as lockouts/tagouts to allow equipment to be safely repaired.
• Recognize typical problems that can occur, and report them to the control room.
• Learn, understand, and use existing procedures to perform tasks for safe operation of the reactor.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
• Preferred qualifications include a Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in a nuclear related field or 5-years applicable experience.
• Ability to identify and operate basic mechanical tools.
• Familiarity with human performance error prevention tools.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs.

Shift

Shift work/scheduled shift to be discussed during a potential interview. Nights and weekends as required.
