About the role

The RCIS fellow will perform various tasks as a scrub tech under the supervision of physicians, assisting in cardiac catheterizations, electrophysiology procedures, and hybrid surgeries.

Responsibilities

• Obtains and sets up appropriate sterile and unsterile items needed for procedure.
• Creates and maintains a sterile environment while opening sterile supplies.
• Utilizes sterile process to assist physician during procedures, including maintaining the sterile field, anticipating needs, and understanding the use and proper preparation of invasive devices.
• Participates in pre-verification checklist and time-outs.
• Performs appropriate counts with the circulator prior to the procedure and before incision closure.
• Assists with surgical procedures, including gowning and gloving the surgeon, draping the sterile field, passing/exchanging equipment to the surgeon during the procedure.
• Keeps accurate records throughout the procedure.
• Ensures correct labeling and handling of surgical specimens and medications.
• Applies and secures sterile dressings after incision closure.
• May need to apply manual pressure to access sites.
• Aids in patient care within the scope of practice, reporting observed changes in patient status to the physician and RN.
• Helps transport patients post-procedure to the recovery room.
• Prepares instruments for cleaning and reprocessing at the end of the case.
• Assists in cleaning the procedural room, turning over the room, and preparing for the next patient.
• Reports supply and equipment needs to the inventory specialist and distributes items to the appropriate area.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Graduate from an accredited EMT/Paramedic program, RRT, Surgical Technology Program, or Military Training Program in Surgical Technology.
• Bachelor’s degree in Health Science preferred.
• RCIS certification required within 2 years of start date.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) and/or Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
• Intermediate computer knowledge: Uses Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows.
