Ranch Hand for SL Ranch in Stevensville, MT

SL Ranch in Stevensville is seeking a full-time ranch hand to perform a variety of duties related to the production of hay and cattle. No housing provided.

Responsibilities

• Repairs and maintenance of equipment, fences, ditches, headgates, and pipes
• Crop management: identify irrigation needs for hay crops and notify supervisor when hay is ready for harvest
• Operate haying equipment, move and set irrigation pipes and guns
• Identify and ensure all pastures are sufficiently watered
• Daily feeding of livestock
• Care of chickens
• Snow plowing, mowing, weed eating as necessary and directed
• Calving: feeding, tagging, vaccinations, general doctoring as needed
• Daily cleaning of dog kennels
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Self-starter, highly motivated
• Ability to work long hours
• Proficient in the safe operation of all equipment: haying, loaders, tractors, 4-wheeler, vehicles, power tools, chainsaw, etc.
• Time management: ability to manage one's own time
• Reliable, responsible, and dependable
• Proficient on horseback and handling of horses and cattle
• Ability to identify sickness and/or lameness in horses and cattle
• Must be able to lift up to 100 lbs
• Clean driving record and ability to pass a background and drug test
• Some framing knowledge a plus
• Roping ability a plus

Schedule

• Most duties are performed outdoors and entail exposure to extreme heat, cold, rain, and other environmental conditions
• Summer irrigation schedule is Monday–Saturday
• Calving schedule is 7 days a week

Compensation is dependent on experience.
