Raisebore Operator II
About the role
The primary role of the Raisebore Operator is to direct and perform the activities with respect to all facets of operating the raisedrill machinery, including moving, set up, pilot hole drilling, installation/removal of reamer, reaming, inspection, maintenance and tear down. Adherence to safety protocols and efficient teamwork are crucial to aspects of this role.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a safe and efficient working environment
- Operate the assigned raisedrill according to procedure with respect to set-up, etc.
- Make required adjustments to the operation of the raisedrill to compensate for ground conditions
- Give direction to crew members on the various duties with respect to the safe and efficient operation of the raisedrill
- Provide training/mentoring to less-experienced members of the project crew
- Connect various components on the raisedrill as required
- Monitor inventory for reamers, drill bits, spare parts and communicate requirements to Project Superintendent as required
- Read and interpret engineering plans to set up the raisedrill and assemble components
- Perform minor repairs as required
- Absorb and communicate daily, weekly and monthly safety directives, policies, and procedures
- Keep work areas safe and free of hazards
- Perform Field Level Risk Assessments
- Comply with Redpath’s Policies and Procedures as detailed in the appropriate manuals, handbooks, directives, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
- Work in excess of 40 hours a week, overtime, day and nights, weekends, holidays and shift rotations
- Comply with Redpath Core Competencies
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Some college education – in mechanical or trades related (an asset)
- 1-2 years with experience in operating various classes of Redpath raisedrills (preferred: 3-5 years’ experience in operating various classes of Redpath raisedrills, with progression in size and complexity of projects/raisedrills employed)
- Experience with heavy equipment operation and maintenance
- Proficiency in Pilot Drilling and Reaming in various geological conditions
- Experience in Diamond or Production Drilling is beneficial
- Knowledge Required: Must be able to demonstrate proper use and safe handling of tools, equipment and materials
- Knowledge of the mining industry underground environment
- Knowledge and understanding of mine regulations pertaining to construction in mining
- Knowledge of raisebore drill operations

- Ability to pass background clearance check, drug screening and physical
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to prepare written reports and correspondence
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
- Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision
- High level of attention to detail, neatness and accuracy
- Strong understanding of safety standards and protocols
