Job Description
The Center for Developmentally Disabled (CDD) is a private, not-for-profit corporation providing residential care services, employment services, day habilitation, and a private school for individuals and students within the Kansas City, MO area. CDD is an equal opportunity employer.
Job Duties
- Provide positive and kind support to Individuals and students in accordance with their Individual Support Plan (ISP), Individualized Education Program (IEP), and other written documentation.
- Work with supervisory staff to plan curriculum and activities appropriate for individual needs and skills.
- Assist in and assigned classroom or on community access, rotating with an assigned Individual/student throughout the day as needed.
- Demonstrate engagement with Individuals and students in a supportive, helpful, and gentle manner.
- Encourage the development of a positive, meaningful relationship with Individuals/students to increase feelings of safety and love.
- Maintain confidentiality for HIPPA/FERPA and programming files/information.
- Complete written documentation as required.
- Absorb grooming needs of the Individual’s and students, including tooth brushing, hand washing, feeding/lunchtime clean up, etc., promoting their independence.
- Be interactive/engaged with the students to enhance learning and manage behaviors.
- Use appropriate behavior management techniques; assist and cooperate in implementing Individual Support Plan (ISP)/Individualized Education Program (IEP).
- Facilitate the program schedule/routine.
- Follow and implement supervisory directions.
- Use appropriate lifting techniques to assist Individual/students with toileting and transitions as needed.
- Work cooperatively on maintaining orderliness, sanitization, and cleanliness of equipment and materials.
- Adhere to policies and procedures outlined in the staff handbook and policies & procedures manual.
- Attend and actively participate in required in-services, trainings, staff meetings, or other program plan meetings as assigned.
- Ability to lift, push, and pull 50+ lbs., sit, squat, kneel, reach, and get up and down from the floor repeatedly to complete assigned tasks.
- Proficient English, written and verbal communication skills.
- Maintain required licensures and certifications.
Qualifications
- Minimum Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: None required.
- Material and Equipment Used: Working knowledge of a Hoyer lift and wheelchair.
- Working Conditions: Works in a school and day habilitation &/or school setting for Individuals/students and persons served with developmental disabilities. Must meet the minimum physical requirements (ability to lift, push, pull 50+ lbs., sit, squat, kneel, reach and get up and down from the floor repeatedly) of the job as described on the application and on the pre-employment physical form.
- Schedule: School Program: 8:00 am- 4:00 pm Monday-Friday.
