Railroad-Warehouse Associate

About the Role

This position is responsible for assisting the Railroad Technician with switching cars from track to track. When not assisting the Railroad Technician, the role involves loading and unloading trucks, labeling stock and non-stock materials, and completing other tasks related to Shipping and Receiving. The work schedule is Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Railroad Technician in routing all inbound rail shipments from the switching railroad into the Crockett Plant's rail yard.
  • Unhook and hook back railcars during switching.
  • Pull and hook up hoses to railcars.
  • Spot cars in correct locations.
  • Ensure all housekeeping standards are followed daily in the rail yard.
  • Recognize, retain, and protect confidential information, especially customer information related to pricing, formulations, business relationships, and product characteristics.
  • Attend plant safety meetings and adhere to safety policies and procedures.
  • Meet requirements to achieve and maintain certifications and accreditations relevant to the job.
  • Follow instructions from supervisors and plant management.
  • Document/record incoming raw material information and outgoing material.
  • Load, unload, and pick materials as needed.
  • Operate heavy motorized material handling equipment.
  • Examine materials for damage.
  • Store and stack items according to established rules and methods.
  • Count and arrange inventory as needed.
  • Assemble, prepare, and check merchandise to be loaded onto trucks.
  • Ensure shipments are properly labeled and packed.
  • Obtain related documentation for each order.
  • Ensure correct ingredients are delivered to the work area.
  • Weigh ingredients to meet customer orders and specifications.
  • Monitor machinery and processes for issues or concerns.
  • Supply production with appropriate materials.
  • Follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or apparent.

Requirements

Skills and Abilities

  • Work in a fast-paced, high-speed environment, follow standardized processes, and adhere to safe work practices in a continuous improvement environment.
  • Read and follow manuals and procedures.
  • Possess basic computer skills and the ability to use a handheld device.
  • Maintain a clean and safe workspace.
  • Have a positive attitude and be dependable with excellent attendance.
  • Pay good attention to detail to ensure accurate work.
  • Be willing and able to work overtime as needed, up to every other weekend.
  • Pass a forklift test and a respirator fit test.
  • Read, write, and speak English.

Education and Experience

  • Preferred: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferred: Forklift experience.
  • Preferred: Previous manufacturing experience.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Regularly: Stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl for long periods; reach, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; talk and hear to coordinate and operate equipment; use safety equipment (safety glasses, safety shoes, respirators, face shields, hearing protection, gloves, etc.); exposure to moving mechanical parts.
  • Frequently: Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; work in temperature extremes, wet and/or humid conditions, with dust, fumes, airborne particles.
  • Occasionally: Sit; handle (with mechanical equipment) up to 2500 pounds; exposure to noise levels above the OSHA action level requiring hearing protection.
  • Other: Specific vision abilities may require close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
