Railroad TC Technician

About the role

Enjoy traveling with railroad companies and assisting with their traffic control needs for railroad construction sites. This role involves setting up and taking down lane closures, performing lane closures on state highways and other roadways, and working independently or as part of a traffic control crew. You will assemble, deliver, and pick up safety products from job sites under the direction of the prime contractor.

Responsibilities

• Travel for 2 weeks at a time with the railroad for construction projects.
• Set up temporary work zones using warning signs, traffic cones, barrels, etc., according to regulatory requirements.
• Load and unload work zone equipment, sometimes weighing up to 50 pounds, to/from the company vehicle.
• Drive the company vehicle safely to and from job sites.
• Stand and safely manage traffic control through active work zones using a stop/slow paddle and radio communication.
• Complete all required paperwork in a timely manner.
• Maintain the company vehicle, keeping it clean and orderly, and report any safety concerns or vehicle problems to management.
• Comply with all RoadSafe Traffic Systems policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
• Drive MOT (Management of Traffic) vehicle to and from project sites and on work sites.
• Place arrow boards or variable message boards in the work area and check the work zone throughout the shift to ensure items remain in their proper location.
• Pick up traffic control items at the beginning and end of the shift and load them into the truck.
• Drive TMA (Truck Mounted Attenuator) vehicle to and from project sites and on work sites to protect workers and the work zone.
• Install, remove, and reset delineators, signs, posts, and supports.
• Perform shop work, which may include general maintenance and repair of equipment.

Requirements

• Must be willing to travel extensively (2 weeks at a time) for this position.
• Valid driver’s license and good driving record required; hotel stays are paid for by RoadSafe.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Must successfully pass a background check, drug test, and meet federal DOT driver requirements.
• Basic reading/writing ability to comply with road signs, complete paperwork, and understand federal motor carrier safety regulations.
• Good knowledge of state and local roadways and experience operating delivery vehicles of varying sizes.
• Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds for long periods and knowledge of safety procedures for securing and transporting cargo.
• Ability to stand for long periods while performing flagging duties.
• Previous experience in traffic control setups is a plus.
• Certification (from ATSSA) as a Worksite Traffic Technician or Supervisor is highly preferred.
• Clean driving record and ability to pass MVR as well as a driving test.
• Willingness to be on a rotating on-call schedule.
• Some mechanical background/experience.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position with taxes deducted. Per diem eligibility will be discussed at the time of interview.
