About the role

The Roadway Worker in Charge (RWIC) position at RailPros is responsible for providing on-site roadway worker protection, coordinating job sites, and handling various types of On-Track Safety tasks. This role involves extensive travel across multiple states to support field operations and project assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Provide required jobsite protection on each assignment, error-free and consistent with the rules.
  • Communicate with train dispatchers and engineers via radio, ensure work groups are clear of limits during train movements, and grant permission for trains and on-track equipment to proceed.
  • Prepare and submit required electronic forms such as job setup forms, daily work reports, invoices, and other reports as needed.
  • Handle and place signs, derail and other tools and equipment weighing up to 90 pounds, as necessary.
  • Maintain a high level of communication with RWIC supervisors and managers regarding assignments and schedules.
  • Participate in routine safety classes and qualification training.
  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and respectful workplace culture.
  • Uphold the organization's standards of integrity, accountability, and respect in all duties and interactions.
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required to meet business needs.

Qualifications

  • Able to complete required physical demands and tasks.
  • Able to effectively warn roadway workers of approaching trains.
  • Understand on-track safety training and qualifications required for roadway workers to be protected.
  • Proficient in radio procedures for communicating between RWIC/EICs (Employee in Charge) and assigned work groups.
  • Proficient in performing a job briefing with all roadway workers within their work location.
  • Able to place railroad advance warning and stop signs.
  • Able to install a railroad derail and apply locking devices.
  • Proficient in electronic communications including email and text, as well as standard office applications (Microsoft Office Suite).

Travel Requirements

  • This position requires routine and extensive travel across Arizona, California, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Washington.
  • Candidates must be willing and able to travel frequently, including overnight stays, in alignment with project schedules and business needs.
  • Candidates are eligible to receive daily per diems for meals and hotels, plus mileage reimbursement for all billable days worked.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience as a RWIC with BNSF OR 15+ years of service while employed by a Class I or Class II freight railroad.
