About the role

This is a full-time, seasonal role (exact start and end dates may vary based on weather and workload). As a Railroad Crossing Applicator, you’ll apply vegetation control treatments at railroad crossings, ensuring projects meet contract specifications with safety as the top priority.

Responsibilities

  • Fill trucks with water/chemical mix.
  • Perform minor weed eating with an industrial weed eater and chainsaw work (16" bar minimum) – approx. 25% of each day.
  • Pull and roll up 300–500 feet of hose up to 32 times per day.
  • Spray 8–10 railroad crossings daily.
  • Safely drive and operate spray trucks between crossings.
  • Call MTM for daily job briefings.
  • Complete required end-of-day paperwork.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 21+ years of age or older.
  • Valid driver’s license with at least 5 years of clean driving history.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen, DOT physical, and federal background check for railroad property access.
  • Ability to travel away from home for 4–6 weeks at a time (DCS provides hotel accommodations and per diem).
  • Flexible schedule: Most work is Monday–Friday, 7am–4pm, with 10–12-hour shifts. Some weekend or night work may be required. Hours may vary with weather and workload.
  • Occasionally travel to offices during breaks for routine truck/equipment maintenance.
  • Must comply with company drug and alcohol policy.

Training Provided

  • Paid training in vegetation identification, chemical usage, safety procedures, application methods, and equipment operation/maintenance.

Pay

Compensation range: $18–22/hourly depending on experience. Pay increases available for prior Hi-Rail/vegetation spray industry experience or earning a Commercial Pesticide Applicator’s License after hire.

Schedule

  • Full-time, seasonal role.
  • Most work is Monday–Friday, 7am–4pm, with 10–12-hour shifts.
  • Some weekend or night work may be required.
  • Hours may vary with weather and workload.
