Qualifications
High school diploma or a GED certificate. If the applicant does not have 48 college credit hours or more from an institution of higher education or an associate's degree (or higher), the applicant will need to pass a state-approved assessment that evaluates the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics. The district will provide testing information upon hiring. Alternatives to these qualifications may be considered as deemed appropriate by the board of education.
Responsibilities
- Adapts classroom activities, assignments, and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher to support and reinforce classroom objectives.
- Administers tests, homework, make-up work, etc., to support teachers in evaluating student progress.
- Attends meetings and professional development presentations to acquire and/or convey job-related information.
- Communicates with supervising instructional staff, professional support personnel, and parents to assist in evaluating student progress.
- Maintains instructional materials and manual/electronic files and records to facilitate instruction, record student information, and meet mandated requirements.
- Monitors students during assigned periods in various school environments (e.g., restrooms, playgrounds, hallways, bus loading zones, cafeteria, parking lots) to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
- Provides instruction to students in individual and group activities (e.g., academic subjects, social skills, daily living skills) under the supervision of the assigned teacher to reinforce instructional objectives and ensure student success.
- Demonstrates dependability, promptness, and regular attendance to establish consistent routines, promote teamwork, and guarantee instructional continuity.
- Maintains confidentiality regarding student and staff information to comply with legal requirements and professional standards.
- Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the workplace.
Physical Requirements
- Demonstrates required mobility, agility, and dexterity to work with students.
- Ability to move, lift, pull, or push objects.
- Remains attentive to students while working in noisy, crowded environments with numerous interruptions.
Physical demands for this role (Aide) include:
- Very rarely requires physical exertion beyond walking.
- Very rarely requires physical exertion beyond walking or climbing stairs.
