Primary Job Functions

  • Understand and perform all work outlined under Supervision
  • Conduct railcar inspections to ensure cars comply with all FRA, AAR, and customer requirements
  • Perform repairs as necessary while always using current safety and quality standards and repair procedures
  • Perform mechanical repairs to railroad freight cars including tank and hopper cars when required
  • Occasionally performing welding repairs when needed
  • Cookordinate and complete repairs in an efficient manner and within assigned hours
  • Maintain work area in a neat and orderly manner and report potential hazards
  • Notify supervision of any materials and/or equipment required to ensure completion of job tasks
  • Interact well with team members and supervision
  • Meet the expectations and requirements of all customers to ensure we deliver a best-in-class customer experience
  • Ensure all necessary invoicing, inspection, and work order information is accurate and complete
  • Actively participate in safety assessments and equipment inspections
  • Follow all safety rules and practices
  • May be involved in safety committees or initiatives
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge And Skills Required

  • Have a High School Diploma or GED
  • Demonstrate job-related knowledge including following written instructions
  • Demonstrate an ability to safely operate machinery including, but not limited to large work vehicles, which may also pull trailers from time to time, and forklifts
  • Be dependable and reliable to show up for scheduled work shifts including any overtime
  • Demonstrate an ability to learn basic railcar knowledge
  • Proficiency with the use of basic hand and power tools
  • Learn basic knowledge of how to read Engineering drawings
  • Pass DOT Requirements is a plus
  • Ability to learn basic knowledge of how to read Engineering drawings
  • Ability to pass any required NDT disciplines and function specific certifications, which may include tank car welding, and demonstrates strong familiarity with AAR rules and regulations
  • Obtain the following within 6 - 12 months (timeline and required test depend on specific location): Welding and Airbrake Test certifications
  • Any type of welding/mechanical experience or railcar knowledge is a preferred

Environmental and Working Conditions

  • The physical environment for this job requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat or cold, wet, humid, or dry and dusty conditions
  • The employee may be frequently exposed to heights that require the use of fall protection equipment
  • Team members are required to use personal protective equipment as environmental conditions and job function details dictate
  • The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job
