Primary Job Functions
- Understand and perform all work outlined under Supervision
- Conduct railcar inspections to ensure cars comply with all FRA, AAR, and customer requirements
- Perform repairs as necessary while always using current safety and quality standards and repair procedures
- Perform mechanical repairs to railroad freight cars including tank and hopper cars when required
- Occasionally performing welding repairs when needed
- Cookordinate and complete repairs in an efficient manner and within assigned hours
- Maintain work area in a neat and orderly manner and report potential hazards
- Notify supervision of any materials and/or equipment required to ensure completion of job tasks
- Interact well with team members and supervision
- Meet the expectations and requirements of all customers to ensure we deliver a best-in-class customer experience
- Ensure all necessary invoicing, inspection, and work order information is accurate and complete
- Actively participate in safety assessments and equipment inspections
- Follow all safety rules and practices
- May be involved in safety committees or initiatives
- Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge And Skills Required
- Have a High School Diploma or GED
- Demonstrate job-related knowledge including following written instructions
- Demonstrate an ability to safely operate machinery including, but not limited to large work vehicles, which may also pull trailers from time to time, and forklifts
- Be dependable and reliable to show up for scheduled work shifts including any overtime
- Demonstrate an ability to learn basic railcar knowledge
- Proficiency with the use of basic hand and power tools
- Learn basic knowledge of how to read Engineering drawings
- Pass DOT Requirements is a plus
- Ability to learn basic knowledge of how to read Engineering drawings
- Ability to pass any required NDT disciplines and function specific certifications, which may include tank car welding, and demonstrates strong familiarity with AAR rules and regulations
- Obtain the following within 6 - 12 months (timeline and required test depend on specific location): Welding and Airbrake Test certifications
- Any type of welding/mechanical experience or railcar knowledge is a preferred
Environmental and Working Conditions
- The physical environment for this job requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat or cold, wet, humid, or dry and dusty conditions
- The employee may be frequently exposed to heights that require the use of fall protection equipment
- Team members are required to use personal protective equipment as environmental conditions and job function details dictate
