Railcar Prep and Technician
Road & Rail Services is hiring a reliable Railcar Preparation Technician to join our operations team in Loudon, Tennessee. This is an active, outdoor opportunity for someone who enjoys physical work, takes pride in completing a job correctly, and understands the importance of safety and attention to detail.
About the role
This position is responsible for inspecting, cleaning, and preparing railcars before they are placed into service for vehicle transportation. You will work around rail equipment, use backpack blowers and hand tools, and help ensure railcars meet established cleanliness and serviceability standards.
Responsibilities
- Inspect railcars for visible damage, wear, fatigue, debris, and potential safety concerns
- Examine railcar interiors for materials or contaminants that could damage vehicles during transportation
- Use backpack blowers, scrapers, and other approved tools to remove dirt and debris
- Assist with safely opening, inspecting, and closing railcar end doors
- Identify repair needs that may be completed by Road & Rail Services
- Report railcar damage, unsafe conditions, and equipment problems to supervision
- Follow all company, customer, railroad, and facility safety procedures
- Maintain accountability for assigned tools and equipment
- Inspect tools regularly and communicate maintenance or replacement needs
- Keep railcars, walkways, and assigned work areas clean and organized
- Complete preparation, inspection, and housekeeping assignments within required timeframes
- Work cooperatively with team members to meet daily production and quality goals
- Perform additional railcar preparation duties as assigned

Qualifications
Previous experience in railroad operations, automotive processing, industrial cleaning, warehousing, construction, landscaping, manufacturing, maintenance, or general labor is helpful but not required.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements
- This position is performed around active rail equipment and requires employees to remain physically active throughout the shift
- Comfortable standing and walking for extended periods
- Bending, reaching, twisting, and performing repetitive movements
- Using backpack blowers, scrapers, and other preparation tools
- Walking on uneven surfaces and working around railcars
- Working outdoors in heat, cold, rain, wind, and other changing weather conditions
- Performing duties in dusty and noisy industrial environments
- Safely opening and closing railcar doors
- Working assigned hours, including overtime or weekends when operationally required
