Rail Structures Construction Specialist
About the role
Michael Baker is seeking a Rail Structures Construction Inspector to support rail and transit infrastructure projects in Northeast Missouri.
Responsibilities
- Oversight of daily construction activities
- Ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with contract requirements
- Serving as a point of contact with owners, contractors, inspectors, and project stakeholders
- Inspecting structural components including foundations, substructures, superstructures, bearings, decks, reinforcing steel, prestressed members, structural steel, and coatings
- Performing field measurements, quantity calculations, and pay item documentation
- Maintaining awareness for project schedules and safety compliance per contract requirements
- Conducting and/or coordinating sampling and testing of materials
- Identifying deficiencies and notifying contractor and Project Administrator of non-compliant work
- Assisting in processing contractor pay estimates and maintaining project records
- Ensuring compliance with environmental permits and erosion control requirements
- Identifying risks and proactively resolving construction challenges to minimize delays and cost impacts
- Supporting project closeout activities, including punch lists, final inspections, and documentation
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field OR a combination of applicable work experience and education
- 5-10 years of related experience on civil construction projects or 4+ years of experience in bridge construction inspection or related field
- Experience with Class I Railroads (e.g., CSX, NS, UP, BNSF, CPKC, CN) and/or local transit agencies preferred
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, contract administration, and agency requirements
- Proficiency with use of project management technology platforms
- Evaluation and maintenance of construction documents – drawings, specifications, materials testing reports and supporting documentation
- Excellent English language skills both written and verbal
Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with construction methods and contract administration
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle and maintain a valid driver's license
- Knowledge of environmental permits and erosion control requirements
- Proactive problem-solving skills to identify and resolve construction challenges

Benefits
Michael Baker offers a competitive compensation package, including a range of $30/hr - $40/hr, based on education, qualifications, experience, and physical work location.
Pay
The approximate compensation range for this position is $30/hr - $40/hr. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
Schedule
Hours may vary depending on assignments and can include exposure to varying weather conditions, challenging terrain, and requirements for walking, standing, bending, climbing, and lifting loads.
