Responsibilities
- Receive and transmit information by radio and telephone
- Read and understand bulletins, work orders, and switch lists
- Aid and instruct train crews to couple and uncouple cars, operate switches
- Maintain awareness of surrounding area and suspicious activity to ensure rail safety
- Operate locomotive equipment
- Maintain switches for railcar movement
- Operate railcar equipment such as air hoses and handbrakes
- Comprehend color and/or hand signals and systems
- Make precise adjustments in moving the controls of a machine or vehicle to exact positions
- Respond quickly and repeatedly to visual symbols, signals, and displays (sound, light, picture, etc)
Requirements
- Valid driver’s license required
- At least two years of verifiable mechanical experience
- General knowledge of construction site and equipment
- Previous work-related skill, knowledge, and/or experience preferred
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in ash management, structural fills and landfills preferred
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance preferred
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Qualifications
- Must be able to climb, maintain body equilibrium, reach, grasp, bend and walk/stand/sit for extended periods of time
- Must be able to display eye to hand coordination; depth perception required
- Must be able to manipulate small parts with hands
- Must be able to hear and see naturally or with correction
- Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds
- Subject to loud noises
- Subject to atmospheric conditions - one or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin: fumes, odor, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation
