About the Role

Direct supervision by a preceptor to develop technical and professional skills through observation and hands-on demonstration in the Radiology department at Orlando Health Lake Mary Hospital. This internship is designed to equip you with the necessary skills to work independently as a licensed Orlando Health Radiologic Technologist upon graduation and successful completion of the introductory period.

Responsibilities

  • Performs diagnostic imaging procedures to demonstrate anatomy for interpretation.
  • Positions patient, equipment, associated devices, and manipulates technical factors to achieve high-quality images for interpretation.
  • Utilizes critical thinking skills to recognize patients' physical limitations pertaining to age-specific needs.
  • Delivers appropriate patient care while recognizing patient conditions and ensuring successful completion of procedures.
  • Identifies, acquires, and documents pertinent patient history relative to procedures.
  • Develops ability to assess Radiographic Images for technical quality, proper annotation, and patient identification, ensuring all relative anatomy is demonstrated.
  • Applies principles of radiation safety to minimize exposure to patients, self, and others.
  • Applies appropriate standard of precautions and personal protective equipment (PPE) to prevent cross-contamination of communicable disease.
  • Develops proficiency in contrast material and adverse reactions to contrast media.
  • Adheres to Orlando Health policy, procedures, protocols, mission statements, and commitment to excellence standards.
  • Learns the necessary skills required of a licensed Orlando Health Radiologic Technologist.
  • Develops necessary skills to utilize all Corporate Radiology computer systems (EPIC, PACS) effectively and accurately.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Complies with all state and federal regulations applicable to each modality.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
  • Follows established image processing techniques and procedures.
  • Maintains cleanliness of work area and equipment.
  • Maintains well-stocked and organized work areas.
  • Works evenings, overnights, and weekends as scheduled.
  • May be required to work at any Orlando Health facility.
  • Performs other duties as necessary to assure customer satisfaction.
  • Provides patient transport.

Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in Senior Year of Radiologic Technology accredited school.
  • Must have pre-approval from school to apply to internship.
  • No experience required.
  • BLS/Healthcare Provider certification within 3 months of hire.
