Summary

The Radiology Assistant Specialist assists the healthcare team in providing excellent customer service and quality patient care by performing patient-related tasks and various clerical duties.

Responsibilities

  • Takes basic X-ray exams and Dexa scans as directed by the provider.
  • Prepares patient and performs all approved exams following good radiation safety, quality assurance, and infection control procedures.
  • Reviews and evaluates diagnostic images for technical quality.
  • Verifies patient information and exams performed, updates and changes exam description to reflect actual exam performed.
  • Utilizes PACS, RIS, and current EMR efficiently and completes the required paperwork for each examination performed.
  • Maintains the cleanliness of x-ray equipment and associated minor equipment in accordance with infection control policies and procedures.
  • Places work orders for service. Reports malfunctions and necessary repairs to supervisory personnel.
  • Complies with all continuing education requirements as dictated by regulatory entities.
  • Attends department meetings and participates in all annual required training and in-service training.
  • Participates in Quality Improvement Programs.
  • Complies with As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) principles, Image Gently principles, and Image Wisely pledge.
  • Understand principles of correct body mechanics and can apply these in assisting patients during transfer, lifting and ambulation.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • DOH eligible for Washington State X-ray Technician Limited Scope Registration; must be registered within 6 months of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (CPR) certification.
  • Technical skills prior to employment to include typing and basic computer skills.
  • Desired courses specific to medical terminology or healthcare.
  • Clerical and/or medical experience.
  • Basic X-ray exam experience.
