Responsibilities
- Obtains patients histories from electronic records, patient interviews, dictated reports, and by communicating with referring clinicians.
- Prepares comprehensive interpretive reports of findings.
- Performs and interprets the outcomes of diagnostic imaging procedures including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computer tomography (CT), positron emission, and ultrasound.
- Reviews and transmits images and information using picture archiving and communications systems.
- Communicates examination results and diagnostic information to referring physicians, patients, and families.
- Evaluates medical information to determine patients’ risk factors (such as allergies to contrast agents) and to make decisions regarding the appropriateness of procedures.
- Provides counseling to radiologic patients to explain the processes, risks, benefits, and alternative treatments.
- Confers with medical professionals regarding image-based diagnoses.
- Congnrols and coordinates radiological services with other medical activities.
- Documents performance, interpretation, and outcomes of procedures performed.
- Establishes and enforces standards for protection of patients and staff.
- Develops and monitors procedures to ensure adequate quality control of images.
- Participates in continuing education activities to maintain and develop expertise.
- Participates in quality improvement activities including discussions of areas where risk of error is high.
- Implements protocols in areas such as drugs, radiation control, MRI safety and infection control.
- Serves as a teleradiologist for satellite facilities that do not have on-site radiologists.
- Serves as Radiology Medical Director for site accreditations (ACR and IAC).
Requirements
- Completion of medical school, a medical internship, and medical residency in radiology at an accredited medical facility required.
- Five years of experience as a Radiologist within a clinical experience required.
Education and Training
- Completion of medical school, a medical internship, and medical residency in radiology at an accredited medical facility required.
Other Requirements
- Computer Skills: Skilled in use of computer/EMR systems. Knowledge of Word processing software, spreadsheet software, Internet, and database software.
Work Environment
- Clinic environment.
- Exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
Mental / Physical Requirements
- Requires manual dexterity, sitting, standing, stooping, reaching, kneeling, crouching, bending, walking, lifting up to 40 lbs. without assistance.
- Close vision and ability to adjust focus.
- Must be able to work efficiently under pressure.
