Responsibilities

• Perform all radiographic examinations according to established protocols set forth by the medical director
• Maintain a high degree of accuracy in radiographic positioning and exposure technique
• Maintain knowledge and awareness of radiation protection and safety during all radiographic examinations
• Prepare for and assist the radiologist with intricate radiographic examinations
• Prepare and administer contrast media in accordance with hospital policy and procedure as well as state and federal regulations
• Use consistent and appropriate techniques to gather relevant information pertinent to the examination being performed, including correct patient identification and order verification
• Assess patient to determine and develop an action plan for completing the procedure
• Perform pre and post exam patient education pertinent to exam being performed
• Produce images according to established protocols within the Diagnostic Imaging Department, at patients' bedside, ER, and surgery with a high degree of accuracy
• Demonstrate good radiation safety practices during radiographic examinations to include use of lead shields, collimation, and determining pregnancy status of women of childbearing years
• Prepare for and assist Physicians with intricate radiographic examinations
• Ensure examinations are performed, completed, and ready for physician interpretation
• Attend and participate in department staff meetings and in-services
• Take an active role in gaining and maintaining proficiency in hospital and radiology equipment and information systems needed in performance of job responsibilities
• Instruct Radiologic Technology students in the radiographic positioning, technique, and film critique
• Present a positive image of the hospital and department
• Assist in quality improvement programs in the department
• Maintain appropriate credentials and certifications related to clinical performance and ensures a current copy is on file with the appropriate department
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Graduate of JRC approved program in Radiologic Technology
• ARRT Registered
• KY Radiation Operator certification (KBMIRT)
• BLS certification
• One (1) year of experience as a general radiographer preferred but not required
