Responsibilities
- Performs radiographic procedures at a technical level with minimal to no supervision from the Director.
- Maintains the qualifications to provide care for patients across the full spectrum of age groups: neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatrics.
- Counsels patients and their families regarding the medical imaging process.
- Operates C-arm and portable equipment within the department, ED, or in surgery suites.
- Employs sterile techniques and protocol during surgical procedures.
- Processes and demonstrates a detailed knowledge of positioning and anatomy to facilitate the desired views as per physician orders.
- Functions as part of an interdisciplinary team with positive interpersonal communication skills when communicating with patients, families, visitors, physicians and staff in all departments of the organization.
- Operates within the A.L.A.R.A radiation standards of care.
- Obtains required billing data and account registration ensuring that the ordered procedure is appropriate for the diagnosis on the requisition.
- Provides a safe environment for patients, visitors and employees through identifying, correcting and reporting health and safety hazards.
- Evaluates Medical Imaging quality, satisfaction and regulatory standards to ensure compliance.
- Works to continually identify new approaches that improve the quality and timeliness of Medical Imaging services provided.
- Uses appropriate IV Sterile techniques in the administration of diagnostic contrast media and is knowledgeable about signs and symptoms of reactions.
- Fulfills all department policies and procedures and ensures compliance with all federal and state laws, regulations and JCAHO requirements.
- Participates in staff development programs, CEU classes as mandated by ARRT, and regularly scheduled in-service programs.
- Mentors new employees as requested.
Requirements
- Registered preferred but not required.
- Requires an associate's degree in Radiology or Radiologic Sciences or the successful completion of a technical or vocational certificate.
- This is an entry level job that requires up to two years of work-related experience, or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Qualifications
- Must have a valid Wisconsin Radiologic Technologist license.
- Must be able to pass a background check.
- Must be able to pass a drug screen.
- Must be able to pass a physical exam.
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
Skills
- Knowledge of sterile technique and protocol.
- Ability to operate C-arm and portable equipment.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, visitors, physicians and staff.
- Ability to evaluate Medical Imaging quality, satisfaction and regulatory standards.
- Ability to identify, correct and report health and safety hazards.
- Ability to administer diagnostic contrast media using appropriate IV Sterile techniques.
