Job Summary

The Imaging OR Specialist is responsible for performing a variety of Imaging procedures ordered by the physician. This role ensures the delivery of quality patient care in a diagnostic/therapeutic environment, specifically in the OR environment. The specialist must be highly skilled in the use of imaging OR equipment and assist surgeons during OR procedures.

Qualifications

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (ARRT-R)
  • Radiography must be obtained within 1 year of employment start date
  • Graduation from an accredited school of radiologic technology; Associate Degree, or Bachelors Degree
  • 1 year post-graduate experience

What You Will Do in This Position

  • Operates all department equipment safely and properly
  • Adheres to strict radiation safety protocols to minimize exposure to patients, staff and self
  • Implements proper exposure techniques and positioning
  • Accurately documents all imaging procedures, maintains accurate patient records
  • Operates and maintain specialized x-ray equipment, including intraoperative CT, all C-Arms (including 3D)
  • Maintain sterile field and follow proper aseptic techniques while operating OR x-ray equipment
  • Able to trouble shoot equipment issues and adapt to changing situations during complex surgical procedures
  • Obtain high-quality radiographic images during surgical procedures, ensuring they are properly exposed and aligned
  • Work closely with surgeons and other surgical staff to provide real-time imaging support during procedures, such as guiding placement of surgical hardware or identifying anatomical structures
  • Demonstrates the ability to perform contrast media administration according to age/weight specific guidelines
  • Demonstrates the ability to perform portable exams
  • Follows proper procedures for quality controls related to equipment and accessories
  • Participates in the holiday and on call work schedule
  • Follows department protocols for communicating with patients, doctors and coworkers
  • Transportation of patients to and from the radiology dept. safely
  • Follows proper procedures for drug administration
  • Accurately follows physician orders, documents completion of exam in Meditech, scans documents and verifies images in PACS
  • Teaches and mentors new hires and radiology students
