About the Role

The Radiologic Technologist (RT) provides direct and/or indirect care of patients in the Cardiac Cath Lab and Electrophysiology (EP) Lab. The RT assesses patients, administers pharmacological drugs within scope of practice as ordered, performs procedures, operates equipment necessary for assigned patient care, and assists physicians with procedures. The role requires familiarity with sterile technique, cath lab equipment, procedures, and radiation safety.

The RT must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status. They must interpret appropriate information to identify each patient's age-specific needs and provide care as described in the unit’s policies and procedures. Clinical competency is evaluated annually using a variety of mechanisms, focusing on the population-specific needs of the customers served.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct and/or indirect patient care in the Cardiac Cath Lab and EP Lab.
• Assess patients and interpret data to identify age-specific care requirements.
• Administer pharmacological drugs within scope of practice as ordered.
• Perform procedures and operate equipment necessary for patient care.
• Assist physicians with procedures while adhering to sterile technique.
• Maintain familiarity with cath lab equipment, procedures, and radiation safety protocols.
• Demonstrate knowledge of growth and development principles across the life span.
• Participate in annual clinical competency evaluations.

Requirements

• Graduate of an approved ARRT radiologic technology program (required).
• American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Certification (required).
• Current Tennessee Board licensure (required).
• BLS certification completed before arrival to the unit/department and maintained (required).
• Current ACLS certification (required).
• Current PALS certification (required).
• Knowledge of general radiology principles and practice skills (required).
• Knowledge of organizational functions, policies, and regulations (required).
• Knowledge of current trends and new developments in the cardiovascular arena (required).

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous clinical experience as an RT-CVS in a Cardiac Cath Lab.
• Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) certification (highly encouraged after one year).
