About the Role

Radiologic Technologist 1 is responsible for the use of radiological equipment in diagnostic examinations in a clinic, emergency room, or main hospital laboratory area. A related responsibility is assisting radiologists or other medical specialists in performing fluoroscopic procedures.

Responsibilities

• Produces radiographs of chest, abdomen, extremities, spine, and other areas using x-ray equipment in an emergency room, clinic, or hospital area while maintaining sensitivity to the patient's age-specific needs.
• Positions patients and takes required radiographs following fluoroscopic examinations.
• Adjusts equipment at appropriate angles and heights and positions patients appropriately for x-ray examinations.
• Provides radiation protection in accordance with prescribed age-specific safety standards.
• Computes technical factors to produce radiographs of proper detail, density, and contrast to ensure quality control.
• Transports patients to and from appropriate holding areas or other assigned areas.
• Operates portable x-ray equipment for bedside examinations.
• Provides and uses immobilization devices while adhering to safety standards for age-specific patient needs.
• Assists radiologists or other medical specialists during fluoroscopy and in administering contrast materials.
• Maintains safety standards and assists supervisors in demonstrating techniques to radiologic technology students.
• Copies pertinent clinical information from medical records to radiology request forms.
• Utilizes appropriate HIS computer system functions and follows through to record complete or incomplete procedures.
• Performs selected procedures in other areas of the radiology department when requested.
• Rotates within the department as required and receives on-the-job training in specialized technical areas.
• Follows infection control policies and procedures, including Universal Precautions.
• Responsible for the appearance of assigned radiographic room and cleaning of equipment and accessories.
• Performs basic duties in patient care and initiates life-supporting measures if necessary.
• Complies with all safety rules, regulations, and departmental/hospital protocols.
• Understands principles of growth and development for patients of all age populations.
• Assists with registration duties such as quick registering, welcoming patients, and bringing patients to treatment areas.
• Attends a minimum of 80% of scheduled staff meetings.
• Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Expertise).
• Performs all other related job duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Associate's degree in Radiology Technology is required (or at least 10 years of related experience as a substitute).
• For employees performing Point of Care testing in specific areas (Operating Room, Neuro ICU, NICU, PICU, Pedi-ER, Cath Lab, Interventional Radiology), the educational degree must be verified at hire (minimum Associate's degree).
• Valid Florida state license as a Radiology Technologist required.
• Employees hired before 2/1/2017 must obtain ARRT Certification by 12/31/2019; new hires with external training must have certification at the time of hire.
• AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification with 6 months validity required; additional life support certifications may be required at the unit level.

Physical Requirements

• Extended standing or walking.
• Ability to carry objects weighing 21 to 50 pounds.
• Able to lift or move objects weighing 51 to 100 pounds with appropriate devices.
• Frequent visual acuity for extended computer use.
