About the role

The Radiologic Tech performs all radiographic examinations according to established protocols set forth by the medical director. This role maintains a high degree of accuracy in radiographic positioning and exposure technique, and ensures radiation protection and safety during all examinations. The Heart and Lung OR Technologist assists physicians in interventional radiology procedures, circulates within the procedure room, and procures all necessary equipment, including operating radiation equipment. This position requires on-call responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Uses consistent and appropriate techniques to gather relevant information pertinent to the examination, including correct patient identification and order verification.
• Assesses patients to determine and develop an action plan for completing the procedure.
• Performs pre- and post-exam patient education pertinent to the exam being performed.
• Produces images according to established protocols within the Diagnostic Imaging Department, at patients’ bedside, ER, and surgery with a high degree of accuracy.
• In conjunction with the OR team, gathers relevant information pertinent to the examination, including correct patient identification and order verification.
• Prepares for procedures and maintains sterile technique.
• Prepares, sets, and implements appropriate technical parameters such as generator, power injectors, and digital imaging equipment.
• Produces images according to established protocols within the Imaging/OR Department.
• Evaluates images for technical accuracy and diagnostic quality.
• Demonstrates good radiation safety practices, including the use of lead shields, collimation, and determining pregnancy status of women of childbearing years.
• Maintains call responsibilities.
• Prepares for and assists physicians with intricate radiographic examinations.
• Ensures assigned areas are kept clean, neat, and orderly.
• Ensures examinations are complete, including images, appropriate paperwork, logging exams in the computer system, and charging supplies in the computer system and/or Pyxis system.
• Attends and participates in department staff meetings and in-services.
• Assists in training new personnel in hospital and department procedures.
• Takes an active role in gaining and maintaining proficiency in hospital and radiology equipment and information systems.
• Presents a positive image of the hospital and department, upholding Core Behavioral Standards.
• Assists in quality improvement programs in the department.
• Maintains appropriate credentials and certifications related to clinical practice and ensures current copies are on file with the department/hospital.
• Promotes a collaborative practice atmosphere with other members of the healthcare team.
• Maintains compliance with all company policies, procedures, and standards of conduct.
• Complies with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain confidentiality at all times.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Graduate of a JRC-approved program in Radiologic Technology (required).
• 2 years of recent experience as a general radiographer (preferred).
• Valid Kentucky Radiation Operator’s License (required).
• Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) (required).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) (required).
