About the role

BWXT is seeking a Radiochemistry Data Specialist to support the Nuclear Operations Group - Technologies (NOG-T) at the Lynchburg Technology Center in Lynchburg, VA. This facility operates several radioactive facilities including a failure analysis laboratory, mechanical testing laboratory, machine shop, radiochemistry laboratory, nuclear counting laboratory, metals analysis laboratory, and four fuel-handling hot cells.

Responsibilities

  • Organize raw instrument data and bench notes.
  • Collaborate with radiochemists and lab technicians to ensure accurate data collection and processing.
  • Perform radiochemistry data reduction (e.g. gamma spectroscopy, gross alpha/beta, liquid scintillation, alpha spectroscopy) using Excel based spreadsheets and other programs.
  • Maintain and update quality control charts.
  • Prepare technical reports and summaries for internal and external customers.
  • Support laboratory audits and inspections.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in chemistry or a related science is required.
  • A minimum of six (6) years of experience in radiochemistry is required.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to adapt to the demands of a specialty lab setting.
  • Proficient in radiochemistry techniques, data reduction/quality assurance, and report preparation.
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient using Microsoft office programs, particularly Excel and Word.
  • A U.S. citizen with no dual citizenship.
  • Able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy security clearance.

Pay

The base salary range for this position in Virginia (US-VA) at the start of employment is expected to be between $76,000.00 and $116,000.00 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment.
