Evaluates prescribed imaging and makes requested changes
Accurately documents treatment information in the patient electronic record and utilizes the record and verify system.
Reviews all new starts
- Verifies patient positioning and field orientation
- Checks the record and verify system for prescription, treatment parameters, doses, treatment accessories, and monitor units
Maintains department supplies
- Provides supervised education experiences for students
Treatment Coverage
- Participates in after hours on-call coverage
- Maintains competency with after-hours treatment coverage
- Performs 2D treatment calculations
Prescription Verification
- Verifies the physician’s prescription and treatment parameters daily
Treatment Volume and Patient Positioning
- Identifies the treatment volume
- Positions the patient in a consistent and reproducible manner
Handling Patients
- Assesses patients’ needs
- Resolves potential problems or conflicts
- Communicates effectively with patients of all ages
- Treats patients in a timely and courteous manner
- Handles stressful situations appropriately
CT Simulation
- Administers contrast agents during simulation localization under the direction of a physician or non-physician practitioner
Adverse Reaction Reporting
- Immediately reports and documents adverse reactions to the managing physician and site leaders
Other Duties
- Performs other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Computer literate
- Proficiency in Electronic Health Records and record and verify systems
- Knowledge of anatomical structures for localization
- Technical skills to accomplish treatment plans proposed by Radiation Oncologists
- Ability to learn and use Radiation Therapy software packages
- Quick adaptability to departmental policies and procedures
- Understanding of Basic Radiation Safety concepts to keep exposure levels ALARA for patients and staff
- Proficient in the use of Linear Accelerator, Treatment Planning Simulator, and patient tracking and scheduling systems
- Excellent clerical skills for record keeping
- Knowledge of radiobiology, doses to critical structures, and lymphatics for spread of disease
- Effective communication skills and ability to handle delicate or stressful issues with tact
- Familiarity with a range of medical devices and systems including patient dose monitors, portal imaging systems, and patient immobilization devices
- Fluent in the English language and able to comprehend both written and verbal instructions
- Organizational, interpersonal, and customer relations skills
- Competence in grammar, spelling, keyboarding, and computer usage
Education
- Associate's [Required]
- Bachelor’s [Preferred]
- Completion of an accredited Radiation Therapy program [Required]
Work Experience
- 1+ year of experience as a radiation therapist [Preferred]
