Major Responsibilities
- Administers radiation therapy to patients following established standards, practices, and guidelines.
- Checks prescription, diagnosis, chart and patient-identification prior to treatment.
- Explains procedure to patient as means of communication during treatment.
- Answers questions and reassures patient.
- Reinforces physician’s advice to patient regarding reactions to treatment and to care.
- Prepares room and equipment for patient according to chart specifications for field size, distance, time, and the like.
- Administers radiation therapy treatments observing radiation safety measures for patients and personnel.
- Transfers patient safety to treatment table, giving special care to catheters, I.V.’s, and the like.
- Maintains patient markings.
- Maintains simulation room.
- Affixes to patients for simulation of patients prior to radiation treatments.
- Observes patient for unusual reactions and reports to supervisor or others.
- Affixes to patient’s care and maintenance of facilities, equipment and supplies.
- Maintains work area in clean, orderly and safe condition.
- Maintains equipment in good working order; makes minor repairs as necessary.
- Reports any hazardous conditions or equipment breakdown immediately to supervisor or others.
- Initiates requisitions for supplies as needed.
