About the role
Radiation Therapists implement plans of treatment prescribed by an oncologist and created by a medical dosimetrist. They use accelerators and ionizing-radiation producing equipment to treat diseases, primarily different kinds of cancer.Responsibilities
- Provide therapeutic and patient care services to deliver radiation therapy as prescribed by a physician.
- Determine and deliver appropriate patient treatment plans in collaboration with physician and dosimetrist.
- Monitor and document patient's condition, report any adverse reactions.
- Assess and educate patients according to specific department protocols.
- Position patients and select anatomic/technical parameters accurately.
- Check and adjust necessary equipment, including linear accelerator.
Requirements
- Board certified Registered Radiation Therapist through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), R.T.(R)(T)(ARRT) in good standing.
- Current state licensure in state in which employed.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers through the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Experience with radiation oncology, specific electronic medical records, recording and verifying.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with external radiation therapy, IMRT, IGRT and CT simulation.
