About the role
Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Medicine is a premier academic medical center located in the heart of Richmond. The School of Medicine is internationally recognized for patient care and education, and is seeking an MD/PhD for a post-doctoral position in the VCU Department of Radiation Oncology/Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center.
The project will focus on developing a research project centering on FLASH radiation, a recently developed type of cancer radiotherapy that shows promise for translational and clinical pursuit.
Responsibilities
- Perform hands-on experiments using molecular and cellular assays and tools and subsequent data analysis, reporting and presentation
- Manage a small mouse colony and prepare mice for experiments and follow-up data gathering and analysis
- Assist in animal experiments including surgery, FLASH irradiations, and behavioral tests
- Order and manage reagents and experimental supplies
Qualifications
- MD and/or PhD (or equivalent) in neuroscience/neurology, biology, or a related field, with experience and interest in translational neuroscience and cancer biology
- Demonstrated expertise in the use of preclinical mouse models and hands-on expertise in animal handling, drug preparation and administration, and testing within translational research settings
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences
- Ability to perform independent research
- Strong quantitative, analytical, or methodological skills
- Evidence of research productivity (e.g., abstracts, presentations, publications)
- Excellent presentation skills
Preferred qualifications include experience with advanced imaging approaches, experimental design and execution, preclinical testing and clinical trials, and computational analyses.

Pay
The salary range for this position is $63,480-$68,480, commensurate with experience.
Schedule
This is a full-time position, working 40 hours per week, and is fully onsite.
