About the role

The technologist must demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care to pediatric, adolescent, geriatric, and adult patients. This role supports the mission and vision of the Methodist Healthcare System and is committed to helping achieve its goals.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate competency in general diagnostic radiography, digital equipment, PACS system, positioning, procedure preparation, and technical factors.
• Responsible for proper use of RIS, Meditech (scheduling exams, patient tracking, image tracking, proper completion of exams, capture charges).
• Understand and follow infection control/universal precautions in all job tasks.
• Accommodate inpatients or urgent exam requests as needed.
• Identify and address image artifacts; clean image detectors as necessary.
• Assess situations, consider alternatives, and choose appropriate courses of action.
• Obtain patient history as needed; assist radiologists during procedures to put patients at ease.
• Report equipment issues requiring service to supervisors.
• Demonstrate ability to shut down radiologic equipment and/or reboot computers.
• Handle radiopharmaceuticals, contrast agents, and other non-controlled medications as appropriate.
• Physically witness waste and/or inventory controlled substances with another authorized individual when required.
• Maintain work area, including cleaning exam rooms, mobile equipment, and stocking linen.
• Comply with System and facility safety policies; use safety equipment and procedures; report unsafe conditions.
• Adhere to the MHS Code of Conduct and demonstrate ethical behavior.
• Report activities that appear to violate laws, rules, regulations, or the Code of Conduct.
• Complete other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Certificate of Training in Radiologic Technology Program or Associate of Science or above in Radiologic Technology.
• Employee completes initial and ongoing training and competencies as defined by service line, facility, and department/unit.
• Preferred: Current or previous experience in a hospital setting, including PACS system and digital radiology.

Qualifications

• Medical Radiologic Technologist Certification from Texas Medical Board (required).
• American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification (required at hire or within 6 months).
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date).
• (ARRT-R) Radiography certification (must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date).
