RACING OUTRIDER

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Escort Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses to the Post and assist in their return to the unsaddling area.
• Control unruly horses or recapture loose horses during training and racing hours.
• Maintain constant radio contact with the Stewards from the Paddock until the start of each race.
• Inform Stewards of any claims or clear races.
• Ensure exercise personnel follow track safety rules and report non-compliance.

Qualifications

• A High School Diploma or GED; College experience preferred.
• At least 1 year of experience in the racetrack industry.
• Experience working around Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses.
• Ability to care for one's own ponies at all times.
• Excellent verbal, mathematical, interpersonal, communication, and writing skills.
• Problem-solving skills, decision-making abilities, and quick accuracy.
• Extensive equine knowledge and understanding of racing and industry requirements.
• Ability to obtain an Indiana Horse Racing Commission License.

Physical Demands

• Frequent standing, walking, stooping, bending, reaching, climbing steps, and sitting.
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds and care for working ponies.

• Highly populated, fast-paced, and noisy environment.
