R1 (RESOURCE 1) SPECIAL EDUCATION BASE PARAEDUCATOR

About the role

The R1 Special Education Base Paraeducator provides instructional, social-emotional, behavioral, and supervisory support to students receiving special education services. Working under the direction of certificated staff, the paraeducator assists students in accessing instruction, participating successfully in the school environment, and making progress toward academic, social-emotional, behavioral, and independence goals identified through their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).

The R1 Base Paraeducator is assigned to the R1 special education program and may support multiple students throughout the school day in a variety of educational settings. This position may include recess/lunch supervision.

Responsibilities

• Provide instructional support to students with special education needs
• Assist students in accessing and participating in classroom instruction
• Support students in achieving academic, social-emotional, behavioral, and independence goals outlined in their IEPs
• Offer social-emotional and behavioral support to students
• Supervise students during various educational settings, including recess and lunch
