R&D Technician (Polymer Materials)

About the role

Kelly is hiring for an R&D Technician (Polymer Materials) for a 12‑month contract role with a prestigious client in Midland, MI. Primary location: Midland, MI 48640. Work location: 3400 S. Saginaw Rd Unit 96/1382 Bldg., Midland, MI 48640. This is an on‑site position.

Responsibilities

• Operate benchtop test equipment for characterizing a variety of material properties and conducting reliability testing.
• Learn quickly to become proficient in a wide range of tests and processes.
• Accountable for own contributions in a timely manner.
• Solve simple problems using scientific reasoning.
• Use hand‑held tools for sample preparation and/or projects involving hardware modification or fabrication.
• Collect and compile data from tests.
• Collaborate with multifunctional team members.
• Maintain the lab, including labeling samples and proper waste disposal.
• Maintain, verify, and calibrate laboratory equipment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree (preferred) in Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or related scientific disciplines.
• Formulation experience in polymer composite matrices is strongly preferred.
• Skilled in data acquisition and data management.
• Proficient in troubleshooting characterization and application equipment.
• Ability to identify and implement testing improvements, whether technique‑, hardware‑, or software‑related.
• Background in silicones and related test methodologies is beneficial.
• Strong time management and organizational skills.
• Motivated to learn and apply new skills.
• Fluency in the English language.

Skills

• Strong interest and background in science and engineering.
• Hands‑on laboratory experience with materials characterization, formulation, and testing.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross‑functional teams.

Pay

$35/hr.
