About the role
The Senior Software Developer position at AVEVA involves recognizing and making technical decisions, designing, developing, testing, and debugging software applications, delivering production-quality software, expanding knowledge of technical domains, participating in research, maintaining codebases, and providing technical support.
Responsibilities
- Recognize and make technical decisions around scaling, reliability, performance, maintenance, business needs, etc.
- Design, develop, test, and debug software applications.
- Deliver production-quality software on time with accurate estimates in a CI/CD environment meeting AVEVA’s standards and functionality.
- Expand working knowledge of technical domains.
- Participate in research efforts to help define future technology decisions.
- Follow team processes, documentation, best practices, and code style guides.
- Maintain existing codebases.
- Work in areas of codebase outside of their own core competency with minimal guidance.
- Persistently address roadblocks, coordinating with development teams as necessary.
- Proactively identify and coordinate with development teams that may be impacted by their work, ensuring alignment on goals and sequencing.
- Provide technical support of products including direct customer support and escalated issues.
- Communicate technical work through design docs and tech talks.
- Give insightful feedback on pull requests, designs, and features to improve quality and security.
- Act as a technical mentor for one or more junior developers and provide guidance across the team and/or other teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree or PhD in Computer Science; Math; Physics; Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering or a related field OR relevant experience.
- At least 8+ years’ experience developing software in major object-oriented programming languages such as TypeScript and building large connected systems including devices, servers, and cloud environments (Azure, Google, AWS).
- Past ownership and delivery of multiple mission-critical, high complexity products or services with a large impact on both the organization’s business and technical direction.
- Demonstrated ability to write clean, well-architected, and well-tested code.
- Experience in designing, building, and debugging software applications/cloud-based services.
- Experience building and using RESTful APIs.
- Solid understanding of security concerns.
- Ability to identify and automate tasks that require automation.
- Passionate about problem-solving and learning new technologies.
- Clear and effective communicator, a creative problem solver, and a thoughtful decision maker.
