About the role
We are seeking an R&D Scientist, Product Development to join our team and support the development and commercialization of innovative pet food and pet treat products. This role will manage hands-on formulation, testing, troubleshooting, scale-up, and technical documentation activities from concept through commercialization.
Responsibilities
- Develop and optimize pet food and pet treat formulations and prototypes.
- Plan and execute bench trials, pilot studies, product testing, and evaluations.
- Support plant trials, scale-up, first production runs, and commercialization.
- Evaluate ingredients, technologies, product performance, shelf life, and stability.
- Analyze data and provide scientifically supported recommendations.
- Maintain formulas, specifications, ingredient statements, guaranteed analyses, and technical documentation.
- Support AAFCO-compliant labeling and product information.
- Partner with Quality, Operations, Procurement, Marketing, Regulatory, suppliers, and co-packers.
- Troubleshoot product and manufacturing issues and support continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Animal Science, Nutrition, Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related scientific field.
- 1+ year of relevant R&D, product development, food manufacturing, laboratory, or technical experience.
- Pet food or pet treat experience strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of food science, formulation, and manufacturing processes.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with formulation/specification systems is a plus.
- Knowledge of AAFCO requirements and experience with co-packers is a plus.
