R&D Scientist
About the Role
BBI-Maine (MBS) is focused on antibody development, maintaining competitive catalogue items, and supporting its existing customer base with on-time delivery of consistent quality products. A fundamental aspect of maintaining a diverse menu is having methods for antibody expression, purification, candidate screening, characterization tools, and applying current scientific trends. To meet the expanding needs of our growing customer base, we have adopted a recombinant strategy to deliver reliable, customizable products.
The Research Scientist reports directly to the Head of R&D Portland and will support New Product Development (NPD) using the recombinant strategy, engage in project management, support BBI customers, develop characterization methods with subsequent training of onsite personnel, and serve as a consultant for operations or commercial teams.
As a Scientific Contributor at BBI-Maine, this role involves experimental work and project management within the R&D group to support internal antibody development programs, encompassing NPD, operational support, and customer needs for Global R&D and BBI-Maine.
Responsibilities
- Provide strong scientific and technical leadership in support of BBI goals.
- Communicate and apply technical expertise in immunology, biochemistry, molecular biology, structural biology, and antibody characterization techniques (e.g., ELISA) to support monoclonal antibody development, NPD, and operations.
- Critically analyze and interpret complex data, and effectively document and communicate results to diverse audiences.
- Collaborate with customers and the Global R&D team to generate custom strategies and plans to achieve customer goals.
- Orchestrate technical work to accomplish projects, including providing training and support as needed.
- Support new technology development and new product development efforts.
- Assist operations throughout the laboratories as required based on business needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of R&D Portland, ME, through active communication and collaboration within the Site Leadership team.
Requirements
- M.S./Ph.D. with academic or professional experience in Immunology, Cell/Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field. B.S. candidates with 5-10 years of professional experience and documented expertise reflecting role requirements will also be considered.
- Hands-on experience in both basic and advanced molecular biology techniques.
- Experience in mammalian cell culture, preferably CHO cells for recombinant production.
- Experience with antibody development, expression, purification, and/or characterization is preferred.
