R&D MIS Spring 2027 Co-op

About the Role

The Wound Closure & Healing R&D Organization is recruiting for an R&D Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) Spring 2027 Co-op to assist in developing STRATAFIX brand barbed suture products at the Raritan, NJ site. This role is part of the Johnson & Johnson MedTech Surgery organization, which offers a broad range of products including sutures, hemostasis products, surgical staplers, trocars, energy devices, and synthetic mesh devices used in minimally-invasive and open surgical procedures for colorectal and thoracic conditions, hernias, oncology, and obesity.

Responsibilities

• Hands-on laboratory work in engineering labs
• Performing engineering studies and developing fixtures
• Generating models and drawings in SolidWorks
• Fabricating prototypes and evaluating them via surgeon Voice-of-Customer (VOC) events
• Good documentation practices, including writing test protocols, generating final reports, and documenting meeting minutes
• Collaborating with engineers and outside suppliers to support project-related activities

Qualifications

• Enrolled in an accredited college/university during the co-op session (not necessarily taking classes)
• Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical field
• Completed freshman year or above
• Availability to work full-time (40 hours/week) during the Co-op session
• Minimum GPA of 3.0 required; GPA of 3.2 or higher strongly preferred
• Demonstrated leadership and/or participation in campus programs and/or community service activities desired
• High level of organization and ability to handle multiple tasks
• Comfortable working independently as well as on a team
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and strong oral and written communication skills
• Hands-on skills and experience with SolidWorks preferred
• Legal authorization to work in the United States and not require future sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1-B) now or in the future
• Ability to provide own transportation to and from the Raritan, NJ site
• Permanently authorized to work in the U.S.; must not require sponsorship of an employment visa (e.g., H-1B or green card) at time of application or in the future. Students on CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT usually require future sponsorship and do not meet requirements unless eligible for alternative long-term status not requiring company sponsorship

Pay

$23.50 per hour – $52.50 per hour, based on candidate's program year, discipline, degree, and/or experience.
