Responsibilities
- Lead the Heavy-Duty Engine Oil (HDEO) R&D team, developing enabling chemistry, new products, and performance testing.
- Align current research projects with future New Product Development (NPD) projects supporting the Engine Oils Product and Technology Roadmaps.
- Supervise team member activities, conduct performance appraisals, and develop training and career plans.
- Consult with R&D Director and HR as needed, liaise with Afton’s Technology Development Team, and oversee joint research activities.
- Translate marketing plans into actionable NPD and research plans, ensuring alignment with customer needs.
- Oversee safety programs, document safety activities, and facilitate safety meetings and inspections.
- Maintain ISO documentation, participate in ISO/Quality activities, and prepare reports and presentations.
- Facilitate cross-functional communication and coordinate IP activities, including competitor analysis and portfolio reviews.
- Represent Afton in industry committees and conferences, provide input to the R&D budget, and communicate scheduling and resource decisions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, or Mechanical/Chemical Engineering.
- Effective project management and leadership skills in a chemical R&D environment, including supervisory experience.
