R&D Laboratory Technician

About the role
We are seeking a hands-on R&D Laboratory Technician to support the Andover R&D facility, which specializes in water-based coating manufacturing, including tennis court and architectural coatings. This position works closely with R&D Chemists to prepare laboratory batches, perform testing and product applications, organize results, and support project-related activities. The role reports to the Technical Director.
Responsibilities
- Support R&D Chemists with product development and project-related laboratory work.
- Prepare accurate and reliable water-based and solvent-based laboratory batches according to established instructions.
- Perform coatings testing, sample preparation, and product application evaluations.
- Learn and support color matching activities.
- Record, organize, and communicate testing data clearly to the R&D team.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, materials, samples, and work areas in a clean and organized condition.
- Support raw material and laboratory supply inventory activities.
- Follow applicable safety, environmental, and laboratory procedures.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree, technical certificate, or relevant hands-on experience preferred.
- Laboratory, coatings, paint, manufacturing, quality control, or construction materials experience is preferred but not required.
- Interest in hands-on batching, testing, product application, and laboratory work.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written procedures and document results accurately.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Self-motivated, dependable, organized, and able to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Willingness to learn new laboratory methods, equipment, and color matching techniques.
