R&D Engineering Technician
About the role
Join Us in Building the Future of Home Robotics
At Sunday, we're developing personal robots to reclaim the hours lost to repetitive tasks. We're focused on an ambitious goal to make generalized robots broadly accessible, enabling households to take back quality time. We have spent the last 18 months building a talented team, securing capital, and validating our technology. We are now seeking passionate individuals to join us in the next phase of our growth. If you are ready to apply your skills to the forefront of robotics innovation, we’d love to hear from you.
What to Expect
In building robots for the home, we are tackling a true grand challenge in robotics: dexterous mobile manipulation in unstructured environments. To make this possible, we are building across the entire robotics stack, and a lot of that work happens at the bench.
- As an R&D Engineering Technician, you'll be working hands on turning designs and test plans into working hardware.
- You'll partner closely with our systems, mechanical, electrical, and firmware engineers to build, wire, bring up, and test robots and subsystems.
- You will also help us keep our fleet of robots well maintained and continuously improving.
- This role offers significant ownership and a front row seat to cutting edge technology as it comes together into a real product.
What You'll Do
- Assemble, wire, and bring up robotic systems and subsystems including actuation and perception hardware, following engineering drawings and work instructions.
- Execute test plans and procedures developed by engineers; collect, log, and organize test data.
- Build, maintain, and improve test fixtures and jigs.
- Run standard test equipment (oscilloscope, multimeter, logic analyzer) under engineering direction, to triage and debug issues.
- Support cross disciplinary triage spanning mechanical, electrical, firmware, and software systems, escalating findings to the responsible engineers.
- Document build logs, write standard operating procedures, and surface recommendations to engineers.
- Perform soldering, crimping, rework, and light fabrication to support prototyping and repair.
- Maintain lab equipment, tools, inventory, and consumables; keep the workspace organized, calibrated, and safe.
- Provide feedback and work on improvements to robot assembly, bringup, and QA processes.
- Use basic scripting (Python) to run test routines or parse data where it speeds the work.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of hands on experience building and testing robots (or complex electromechanical systems - those are robots too!)
- Ability to read and work from schematics, mechanical drawings, BOMs, and work instructions
- Comfort with soldering, crimping, hand tools, and basic mechanical/electrical fabrication and assembly
- Familiarity with standard diagnostic tools (oscilloscope, multimeter, logic analyzer)
- Strong, detail-oriented record keeping and a habit of clear documentation
- Comfort working in a fast-moving prototype environment
Skills
- Exposure to protocols including CAN, Ethernet, USB, MIPI
- Hands on experience with actuators, cameras, microcontrollers
- Soldering and rework to IPC standards
- Comfortable with agentic coding tools (Claude Code, Codex, etc.)
- Prior experience in a robotics startup
Benefits
We are an equal opportunity employer and consider all qualified applicants regardless of race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, age, or veteran status.
Pay
Competitive salary based on experience and qualifications.
Schedule
Full-time, Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm.
